While researching the topic under discussion, I found that Cuba's economic cooperation with the Soviet Union helped to maintain Cuba as a sovereign country with a sufficient level of income and social security. A large part of the budget was earmarked for achieving equality between people, healthcare and education. In the period after the Cuban Revolution, Cuba was a leader in the level of education. They had the lowest mortality and the longest life expectancy. They encouraged industrialization, but Cuba was under the US embargo, and at the same time they lost many engineers who fled abroad due to political pressure, which slowed down the process. They were saved by cooperation with the Soviet Union, which prevented the collapse of the economy. According to unofficial data, the Soviet Union gave Cuba several billion dollars during the period of cooperation. Communist-minded cadres, unnecessary loans and foreign military interventions were mainly to blame for the economic failures.
