Introduction: Sexually transmitted infections are those that are mainly transmitted through sexual contact, whether vaginal, oral or anal intercourse. The development of effective vaccines against some sexually transmitted infections makes it possible to protect susceptible individuals from infection, potentially leading to the elimination of the spread of these diseases in the wider population. Purpose: The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of nurses on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Methods: We used a descriptive method. We conducted a literature review, collecting articles according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. We searched MedLine, Science Direct, the University of Ljubljana digital library browser and the National institute of public health website. Data were searched using keywords. The analysis of the thesis includes 23 items of literature. Results: The results showed that the nurse plays important role in preventing sexually transmitted infections. It is the nurse who raises awareness about safe sex and the nurse who emphasises the importance of vaccination and regular testing for prevention of sexually transmitted infections, human papillomavirus, role of the nurse, vaccination, testing for sexually transmitted infections. It is also her job to create a safe relationship with patients, as this is the only way she can motivate those infected to seek treatment. Discussion and conclusion: The implementation of preventive measures to avoid sexually transmitted infections, and the recommended vaccination against human papillomavirus and hepatitis B, contribute significantly to reducing the spread of sexually transmitted infections. Further research is needed to improve the delivery of health services to better support nurses in their comprehensive approach to sexually transmitted infections prevention.
