Abstract
The modification of biomaterial surfaces is crucial to address prevalent global medical challenges. Nanotechnology serves as a pivotal tool in this context, enabling the modification of surfaces with nanoscale features to enhance antibacterial properties and elicit application-specific cellular responses. This doctoral dissertation explores innovative approaches for constructing nanostructures by integrating established surface treatment techniques with ground-breaking methods, notably plasma electrochemical anodization. The synthesis involves a combination of plasma with hydrothermal methods and/or plasma-induced electrochemical anodization, aiming to yield unique morphologies not previously reported through conventional means. The research delves into a comprehensive study of the obtained nanostructures, focusing on optimizing parameters influencing surface properties. By characterizing these nanostructures, the study anticipates uncovering morphologies distinct from conventional techniques. Additionally, the thesis investigates the interaction between well-characterized nanostructures and various cell types for biological applications. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the fabrication of titanium-based nanostructures with diverse nanotopographies, utilizing environmentally friendly electrolytes, thereby making a significant impact in the field.
