Abstract
Cilj magistrske naloge je bil določiti optimalen način komunikacije za lociranje starejših oseb z uporabo prenosne naprave. Osredotočili smo se na zmanjšanje porabe energije, hkrati pa zagotovili, da naprava periodično pošilja lokacijo osebe in omogoča hitro ukrepanje v primeru težav. Razvili smo algoritem, ki dinamično prilagaja komunikacijske protokole glede na okoliščine in potrebe uporabnika. Pri tem smo uporabili tehnologije, kot so BLE za komunikacijo v domačem okolju, NB-IoT za povezljivost na daljavo in GNSS za natančno lociranje. Poleg tega smo uporabili različne senzorje, ki pomagajo določiti približno lokacijo, kadar GNSS ni na voljo. Algoritem dinamično preklaplja med različnimi načini delovanja naprave ter na podlagi meritev senzorjev določa pogostost komunikacije in lociranja, kar omogoča optimalno ravnovesje med funkcionalnostjo in energetsko učinkovitostjo. Prav tako smo preučili različne možnosti namestitve naprave na telesu za optimalno merjenje aktivnosti. Prispevek te naloge je pomemben, saj naprava z dolgo avtonomijo baterije in zanesljivim delovanjem izboljšuje kakovost življenja starejših oseb, jim omogoča večjo samostojnost ter zmanjšuje zaskrbljenost njihovih bližnjih, saj omogoča hitro obveščanje v primeru težav.

Title:Optimization of energy consumption in a monitoring device for the elderly
Abstract:
The goal of this master's thesis was to determine the optimal communication method for locating elderly using a portable device. We focused on minimizing energy consumption while ensuring that the device periodically sends the person’s location and allowing for quick action in case of an emergency. We developed an algorithm that dynamically adjusts communication protocols based on the circumstances and needs of the user. Technologies such as BLE for communication within the home environment, NB-IoT for remote connectivity, and GNSS for accurate positioning were utilized. Additionally, we integrated various sensors that help approximate the location when GNSS is unavailable. The algorithm dynamically switches between different operating modes and based on sensor readings, determines the frequency of communication and location updates, ensuring an optimal balance between functionality and energy efficiency. We also explored different body placement options for the device to ensure optimal activity measurement. The contribution of this thesis is significant, as the device, with its long battery life and reliable performance, enhances the quality of life for elderly, increases their independence, and reduces concerns for their loved ones by providing alerts in case of an emergency.
