The geopolitical position and strategic importance of Ukraine place it at the heart of tensions
between the West and Russia. Historical ties and current political and military realities have
shaped the complex relationship between the two countries, with Ukraine seeking security and
economic support primarily through partnerships with the West, such as the European Union
and NATO. Following the annexation of Crimea and the onset of the war in Donbas, Ukraine
has intensified its efforts to maintain territorial integrity and independence, while opposing
Russian military presence and influence on its territory. In the thesis, we emphasize that Russia's
strategy includes the use of hybrid warfare, which combines cyberattacks, propaganda, support
for separatist movements, and direct military intervention. Through these means, Russia aims to destabilize Ukraine and prevent its integration into Western institutions. Conversely, Ukraine strives to establish new security partnerships and reduce its energy dependence on Russia,
which includes seeking alternative energy sources and transit routes. The conflict, therefore,
has broader implications for European energy security and political stability. In the thesis, we
conclude that measures such as sanctions against Russia and efforts to integrate Ukraine into
NATO and the EU are part of a broader geopolitical game, in which Ukraine plays not only the
role of a victim but also an active player seeking its path among Western allies and Russian pressure. The success of these efforts will determine not only the future of Ukraine but also the stability of the wider region and the international order.
