The master thesis analyses foreign media coverage of Slovenia's participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2023. The media coverage was collected in the 13-month period before and during the Book Fair (October 2022 to November 2023). The assignment classifies and organises the media publications in a meaningful way. The data on media publications are presented statistically and are suitable for further contextual analysis. The main research question of the thesis was the financial value of the media publications if they were converted into advertisements and published by Slovenia with the same publishers in the context of an advertising campaign. The theoretical part of the master thesis explores the guest country as a concept and investigates the motives that countries have when applying for an honorary hosting. The "bidbook" is a document that a country has to create and submit to the Frankfurt Book Fair when it wants to become a Guest of Honour. In this thesis, the concept and motive of the Guest of Honour is explored through the Slovenian bidbook Sosed na oblaku from 2015, the document Slovenia: Its publishing landscape and readers and the document Satovje besed, which took place during the Frankfurt Book Fair, eight years after the submission of the bidbook.
