Abstract

Title:Mechanistic description of bacterial wall deformation under hydrostatic pressure
Abstract:
In this thesis, we will investigate the response of a spherocylindrical bacterium to hydrostatic pressure. Using a simplified model of the bacterium, represented as a thin-walled cylinder, we will calculate the deformations, considering the transverse anisotropy of the bacterial wall and the hyperelasticity of the wall material. First, we will numerically perform the calculations for two hyperelastic material models, followed by an enhancement of the analysis using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Upon comparing the results from both calculation methods, we will identify discrepancies, which stem from the underlying assumptions specified in each approach.
