Abstract
Invazivne tujerodne vrste rastlin, ki so pogosto vnesene s kontaminirano zemljo izpodrivajo avtohtono vegetacijo in vplivajo na razmere v ekosistemih. Naša raziskava na reki Meži je pokazala povezavo med motnjami v rečni strugi, ki jih povzroča človek, in širjenjem tujerodnih invazivnih rastlinskih vrst. Ugotovili smo, da mehanski posegi, kot sta utrjevanje bregov in kanaliziranje struge, ustvarjajo razmere, ki so ugodne za uspevanje tujerodnih invazivnih vrst, kot je japonski dresnik (Fallopia japonica). Analizirali smo 13 rečnih odsekov vzdolž reke Meže od izvira do izliva v reko Dravo in primerjali območja z minimalnimi človekovimi posegi s tistimi z obsežnimi morfološkimi spremembami rečnega ekosistemau. Izmerili smo tudi osnovne fizikalne in kemijske parametre vode. Naše ugotovitve na terenu so pokazale povečanje številčnosti in raznolikosti invazivnih tujerodnih rastlin na območjih, kjer so rečni bregovi mehansko utrjeni. Pomembno je, da zmanjšujemo obseg in pogostost naših posegov v reko in dajemo prednost ohranjanju naravnih rečnih ekosistemov.

Title:Relation between mechanical interventions into the riverine ecosystem and presence of the invasive alien plant species along the river Meža
Abstract:
Invasive non-native plant species, often introduced through contaminated soil, are outcompeting native vegetation and affecting ecosystems. Our research on Meža River has shown a link between human-caused disturbance of the river channel and the spread of non-native invasive plant species. We found that mechanical interventions such as bank hardening and channel channelling create conditions that are favourable for non-native invasive species such as Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) to thrive. We analysed 13 river sections along Meža River from its source to its confluence with the Drava River, comparing areas with minimal human intervention with those with extensive morphological changes to the river ecosystem. Our findings in the field showed an increase in the abundance and diversity of invasive non-native plants in areas where the river banks are mechanically fortified. It is important that we reduce the scale and frequency of our interventions in the river and prioritise the conservation of natural river ecosystems.
