In society, there is a large number of people who need help for various reasons, and as well many people who are willing to offer help. If it is an individual's free decision to offer help to an unknown person and gain no material benefits from this work, we are talking about a volunteer and volunteer work. Volunteering improves the lives of individuals and communities and is a building block of a solidarity society. If we want volunteer work to be effective, we must properly organize it. Organized volunteering is carried out in nongovernmental organizations, that ensure the competency of the volunteers and take care of their needs. Theoretical framework highlights various benefits of processes such as planning, onboarding, training, motivating volunteers and organizing their work. The majority of this will be presented in the theoretical part, while in the empirical part a more detailed analysis of volunteer management in nongovernmental organizations in Slovenia will be carry out, which was performed in six nongovernmental organizations, operating in various fields. In key findings, I will illustrate the strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats of volunteer management in the selected organizations.
