In Slovenia, NGOs play a significant role in the welfare system, forming a comprehensive social protection network alongside public services. They contribute to reducing societal risks, offer solutions for various social issues, and ensure safety for their members and users. NGOs hold a substantial potential in social welfare, addressing gaps that public services inadequately cover. Lower Podravje, encompassing 22 municipalities, faces unique challenges due to its predominantly rural nature. Here, NGOs are crucial for providing support and enhancing quality of life, as access to public services is limited by distance from urban centers. The Institute »Nazaj na konja« is an example of good practice, meeting numerous local needs in family support, youth inclusion, vulnerable groups, and cultural tourism development through its diverse team and innovative approach. The organization also strives to overcome challenges related to funding, administration, spatial issues, staffing, and public transport accessibility.
