Title:The Internal Voice Division of The Carst Dialect
Abstract:
The Karst dialect can be divided into several groups of speeches based on the development of the original Slovene syllabemes. According to the phonetic realisations of the original Slovene *ū/*ù-, original Slovene *ō, and the original Slovene *ǭ/*-, the dialect is divided into the Central Karst speeches (uo, uo, uo) and the Southeastern Karst speeches (ȳ, ū, ū). Based on the phonetic realisations of the original Slovene */*- and the original Slovene *ī/*ì-, original Slovene *ū/*ù-, the original Slovene *e, and the original Slovene *o, the dialect is further divided into Northcentral Karst speeches (ā; i, u, e, o), Central Karst speeches (ə; ī, ū, ē, ō), Southcentral Karst speeches (ie/ā; ī, ū, ē, ō), Eastcentral Karst speeches (ie; ī, ū, ē, ō), Central Southeastern Karst speeches (ie; ī, ū, ē, ō), Southern Southeastern Karst speeches (ie/ā; ī, ū, ē, ō), and Northern Southeastern Karst speeches (ie; ī, ū, ē, ō, though with instances of original Slovene *ū/*ù- > ȳ and original Slovene *ō > ū). The Eastern Central Karst speeches, Northern Southeastern Karst speeches, and Southern Southeastern Karst speeches represent transitional subdialects between the Central and Southeastern Karst speeches.
