This thesis examines the reception of selected Slovenian literary works in the context of the emigration experience, which present the experience of emigration of Slovenians to the United States of America in a negative light. The first of the two works is the drama Amerikanci, by Zofka Kveder, and the second, Zgodba o dveh mladih ljudeh, by Ivan Cankar. This thesis presents the mass emigration of Europeans in the second half of the 19th century, including Slovenians within Austria-Hungary. It researches the cultural integration of Slovenian emigrants in America and their journalistic activity, as well as the role of the Slovenian language and literature in the Slovenian language in their newspapers for the preservation of their Slovenian identity.
