Abstract

Title:The Use of Indefinite Pronouns by Speakers of Serbian as a First Language and Slovenian as a Second Language
Abstract:
This thesis addresses the issue of the use of indefinite pronouns nekdo and nekaj, as well as free-choice indefinites kdo and kaj in Slovene by speakers of Serbian as their first language, who are learning Slovene as a second language in a Slovene-speaking environment. Interference in the use of indefinite pronouns and free-choice indefinites occurs due to the formal similarity of pronouns in these two related languages, while the semantic fields of formally identical pronouns in the two languages do not always overlap. In the theoretical part, we explore the differences in the conceptualization of indefinite pronouns in Slovene and Serbian linguistics. Through research, we aim to answer the research question of the extent to which the use of formally identical pronouns in both languages overlaps, where deviations occur, and why. The results show that the use of these pronouns, in general, does not overlap, leading to errors when translating examples from Serbian to Slovene based solely on linguistic intuition.
