This article focuses on the impact of translating on learning Slovenian as a foreign language and exploring Slovenian culture and literature. It discusses selected personal experiences of translating from Slovenian into Czech. Translations of poetry and prose for literary evenings, interpreting interviews with Slovenian writers, and translating film subtitles are mentioned. Attention is paid to the problems students face when translating and what translation brings to students. The article also deals with the idea of giving more space to student translation in teaching Slovenian.
