The master's thesis examines the history of the County of Gorizia and its estates after 1500 when it became the last land of the later political formation called »Inner Austria« to come under Habsburg rule. While the other Inner Austrian lands (Styria, Carinthia, and Carniola) already had an organized estate system at that time, it was necessary to establish such an estate system in Gorizia according to Habsburg norms. The thesis focuses on the events of the late 15th century and the organization of the estates in the 16th century while it was still developing and gained its final form by the end of the century. The main aim of the thesis is to shed light on the estate organization in Gorizia, which in its composition somewhat differs from that of the other Inner Austrian lands. In addition to the composition of the Gorizia Diet, the thesis will also present the provincial law, the organization of the courts in the region, and the provincial homage for a better understanding of the functioning of the estates.
