The thesis consists of a short anthropological overview of psychedelics and an investigation
of the activities of the Psychedelic Society of Slovenia. The overview focuses on the
perceptions and use of (psychedelic) drugs in our society. In addition, some space is devoted
to shamanism and anthropological research on shamanism, as well as to the topics of trance
and hallucinations. This is followed by an analysis of the Slovenian Psychedelic Society,
presenting some motivations, aims, values and activities of the Society. The Slovenian
Psychedelic Society is an example of a practice and an institution in which knowledge about
the use of psychedelics is produced, reproduced and rediscovered, and integrated for personal
purposes into the lives of the participants in the Society. Their main efforts concern harm
reduction and education as components of responsible use of psychedelics. At a time when
psychedelics are illegal in Slovenia, the Society is committed to their re-evaluation. The
presentation of the Society is complemented at the end of the work by a presentation of the
most important and most researched psychedelics worldwide.
