Football is a complex sport in which, in addition to technical and tactical movements, we also develop primary forms of movement skills: strength, mobility, balance, coordination, speed, accuracy and endurance. When developing movement skills, coaches should use basic didactic and educational principles. A key to a successful training process is diversity and graduality, as they provide children and young people a versatile and long-term movement development.
In the introduction we have defined and presented the factors that are important for long-term work with young football players. Firstly, we described the development of biological systems of a child. They help us design training content for a certain age category. We have also addressed some often-problematic football areas, such as competitive orientation in children, narrowly focused training, the role of the coach in working with children, the creation and realization of the club’s vision and the management of the sports training process. In the following chapter, we have fully presented the movement abilities and appropriately placed them in age categories according to principles and guidelines.
In the discussion, we systematically presented a set of elementary games and other game content, which, when properly managed, represents a high-quality learning tool. With them we want to open the eyes of coaches to the fact that the development of movement skills can be a fun, attractive learning process for children. The presented games were tested according to the appropriate age categories. In practice it was shown that children enjoy getting knowledge through games. Learning process with the use of games proved to be more effective, since they are more driven, progress faster and persist longer in football.
In the development of a young football player, we must strive to create good and solid foundation, because only then will they be able to reach their full potential. At the same time, through training, he will perceive sport as a value, he will respect it and enjoy it. His love for sports will be shared among loved ones.
