This master's thesis presents the early development of Slovenian didactic literature for accordion. The beginnings date back to 1942 and are connected with Albin Fakin and his School for Piano Accordion. The thesis further presents the most important textbooks for beginner accordionists produced to date. The compositional ouvre of Vitja Avsec comprises over 130 works of solo, chamber, orchestral, vocal, vocal-intsrumental and theatre music. His style is elucidated by other prominent musicians as well as the composer himself. The focus of the thesis is on the analysis of all his eighteen works for accordion. The importance of the composer Vitja Avsec in the Slovenian accordion opus is confirmed by the accordion teacher Mateja Prem Kolar and composer Črt Sojar Voglar. Both also discussed the prospects of didactic literature for accordion in Slovenia.
