The master's thesis deals with the field of cross-border spatial planning. The goal is to create a conceptual
proposal for cross-border spatial planning in the considered area of the Obsotelje and Kozjansko
subregion. The recent change in the Schengen regime at the Slovenian-Croatian state border represents
a potential for strengthening interstate relations and cross-border cooperation. In particular, border areas,
which are often defined as problem areas, have the possibility of cross-border spatial planning improved
or facilitated when the borders are "opened". With the help of the European Fund for Regional
Development and its mechanism of territorial cooperation, the possibility of more comprehensive spatial
development is now significantly improved in this area. With the help of a review of the relevant
literature, a conversation with an actor in cross-border cooperation projects and based on a
comprehensive analysis of the selected area, the master's thesis proposes priority areas and directions
that future planning should address. The proposal is also supported by the creation of a conceptual
representation of cross-border spatial planning in the considered area of Obsotelje and Kozjansko. In
the conclusion of the task, based on the intermediate findings, a proposal is also given, which areas
should be regulated by cross-border spatial planning in a general sense, regardless of the area in question.
