Abstract
This introduction to the special issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly emphasizes the importance of user studies for understanding users’ information needs and behavior, which form the foundation for developing bibliographic information systems and establishing standards guiding the creation of bibliographic data and records. It provides an overview of the special issue by introducing ten articles selected for this special issue, organized in three thematic areas: Reviewing the Landscape of User Studies, User Studies and Conceptual Models, and Applying User Studies to Bibliographic Data and Systems. Additionally, it offers some references for further study in research methods, aiding readers who are interested in conducting their own user studies.
