Delo predstavlja v življenju posameznika pomembno aktivnost, ki mu predstavlja eksistenco za dostojno življenje, hkrati mora delo predstavljati posamezniku zadovoljstvo, delovno okolje pa spodbudo za osebnostni in karierni razvoj. Od zadovoljstva pri delu je odvisno, kako dolgo bo zaposleni ostal v delovnem okolju ali ga zapustil in si priložnosti iskal drugje, ne glede na starost in poklicno izobrazbo. Trenutno se trg dela sooča s pomanjkanjem ustreznega kadra, kar pomeni, da so danes na trgu dela odprte neomejene možnosti mobilnosti delovne sile. Starost delavca torej ne predstavlja več ovire zaposlenega, da se ne bi odločil zapustiti dosedanjega delovnega okolja in slediti novim izzivom. Tema, ki jo v pričujočem magistrskem delu obravnavam »Sprememba zaposlitve po volji delavca« se nanaša na spremembo zaposlitve zaposlenih v srednji odrasli dobi, ki so presegli prag štiridesetih in se odločili, da bodo svojo dosedanjo zaposlitev zamenjali. Obravnavana tema bo tako vključevala raziskovanje razlogov posameznikov po spremembi zaposlitve v obdobju srednje odraslosti v starosti od 40 do 65 let. V teoretičnem delu bom spregovorila o vlogi, pomenu in vplivu dela na posameznika, predstavila pomen kakovosti delovnega življenja v življenju posameznika, obravnavala prenehanje zaposlitve, s poudarkom na prenehanju zaposlitve po volji delavca, teoretični del pa bom zaključila s poglavjem o pomenu socialnega dela na področju dela in kadrov. V empiričnem delu bom raziskala razloge, zakaj se zaposleni odločajo za spremembo zaposlitve, kar je tudi moje temeljno raziskovalno vprašanje, ob tem pa bom predhodno ugotavljala vpliv delovnega okolja prejšnjega delodajalca na delavca v luči odločitve za spremembo zaposlitve delavca, sam potek spremembe zaposlitve, vlogo, ki jo ima ob tem prejšnji delodajalec, prav tako pa bom predstavila delovno okolje novega delodajalca z vidika delavca in zadovoljstva z njim. V empirični raziskavi sem skozi kvalitativno raziskavo, v kateri je sodelovalo sedem oseb, ki so bile stare od 40 do 57 in so v zadnjih dveh letih zamenjale zaposlitev, ugotovila, da zaposleni zapuščajo delovno okolje predvsem zaradi želje po kakovostnem življenju.

Work is an important activity in an individual's life, providing a livelihood for a decent life, but work must also be satisfying and the working environment a stimulus for personal and career development. Job satisfaction determines how long an employee stays in the working environment or leaves it to seek opportunities elsewhere, regardless of age and occupational background. The labour market is currently facing a shortage of suitable staff, which means that there are unlimited opportunities for labour mobility in today's labour market. Age is therefore no longer a barrier to an employee's decision to leave his or her current working environment to take up new challenges. The topic I am dealing with in this Master's thesis - Changing jobs at will - concerns the change of employment of employees in middle adulthood who have passed the age of 40 and have decided to change their current job. The topic will therefore involve exploring the reasons why individuals change jobs in middle adulthood between the ages of 40 and 65. In the theoretical part, I will discuss the role, meaning and impact of work on the individual, present the importance of quality of working life in the life of the individual, discuss the termination of employment with a focus on voluntary termination of employment, and conclude the theoretical part with a chapter on the relevance of social work in the field of work and human resources. In the empirical part, I will explore the reasons why employees decide to change jobs, which is also my main research question, while preliminarily identifying the impact of the previous employer's working environment on the employee in the light of the employee's decision to change jobs, the process of job change itself, the role played by the previous employer in this context and presenting the new employer's working environment from the employee's perspective and satisfaction with it. In empirical research, through qualitative research with seven people aged 40 to 57 who had changed jobs in the last two years, I found that employees leave the workplace mainly because of a desire for quality of life.
