Philosophy of culture is a young field that flourished in the 20th century, and Ernst Cassirer is one of the most important philosophers in this field. The concept of culture in his philosophy comes from a system of symbolic forms. The totality of symbolic forms is, in its essence, culture, which is dynamic and functional. After a brief overview of the fundamental concepts of his philosophy (symbolic forms, symbol and animal symbolicum) and the historical and intellectual background, we deconstructed the idea of culture and defined its constituent concepts; life, spirit, form, freedom and functionality, and the relationships in which they function. By deconstructing Cassirer's concept of culture, we addressed the question what forms it and how it is established.
