In my graduation thesis, we determined the elevation of the benchmark embedded in the Church of St. Lovrenc at Smuk above Semič. The elevation was determined using the methods of geometric levelling and trigonometric altimetry. Levelling was carried out in Semič from a given benchmark to a new intermediate benchmark, from which the height could be transferred to Smuk using trigonometric altimetry. The transfer of height from Semič to Smuk was done by measuring zenith distances in both directions, where, in addition to the elevation difference which we measured several times throughout the day. We were also able to calculate the refraction coefficient for various time periods during the day. An additional challenge was the transfer of height from the benchmark to the total station, which we approached in three different ways.
