Abstract

Title:Perception of the Soul in Slavic Mythology
Abstract:
In my master's thesis, I focused on the mythology of the ancient Slavs. I dealt with the Old Slavic concept of what the soul is, how it is represented and what happens to it after death. I focused on researching mainly Slovenian mythology, beliefs, tales, fables, legends, customs, traditions, Slavic history and folklore that specifically relate to the human soul. I have explored in detail the Slavic pantheon, their belief in the afterlife and the gods who rule the afterlife, as well as their ideas about the forms in which the soul appears and how it behaves after death, during sleep and in a state of ecstasy. I am interested in the symbolic connection of the soul with various animals among the ancient Slavs and the connection between a good and a bad death, and what happens to the soul in both cases. The assignment aims to create an experimental photo series with a dark and mystical atmosphere on the theme of the soul and the afterlife.
