In my master's thesis I am working on typographic reflections on the state of war. I achieve this by presenting a new typeface through the medium of military uniforms. My design expression is subtle, but the power is achieved through the use of various symbols and presentational approaches. My work draws on the meaning and power of clothes, both in the fashion world and in contexts where clothing represented the ideology of authoritarian state systems. Is this immoral or just an absurdly good idea? Can clothes also promote something strictly design-like, such as a typographic system? A system which, through the role of clothing, reinforces its original purpose.
