Globalization brings faster technical progress, which affects the labour market. The Slovenian labour market is currently facing a labour shortage, as well as a labour shortage due to a lack of competence, which represents a major challenge for companies. The purpose of the assignment was to examine how globalization affects the labour shortage. The goal of the assignment was to study globalization, analyse the situation on the labour market in Slovenia, define how globalization affects the labour market, check whether globalization is the cause of labour shortages, present untapped potential and formulate proposals for improving the situation. I found out that a large percentage of companies are facing a labour shortage, and that globalization is the reason for the labour shortage, mainly due to rapid technological development. In addition, other reasons such as increased competition on the global market, mobility of the workforce and demographic changes mainly in the form of an aging population and a numerically smaller and younger generation with different motivation contribute to the labour shortage. In addition, new technologies and new innovations require changes in the work processes of companies, which requires new skills and brings with it the risk of a lack of employee competence or increased demand for personnel with specific skills.
