My thesis focuses on three contemporary Slovene plays that were influenced by the Balkan war in the nineties: Draga Potočnjak’s Hrup, ki ga povzročajo živali, je neznosen, Dušan Jovanović’s Uganka korajže and Boris A. Novak’s Kasandra. The motif of war is represented differently in each of the three plays, but the act of war always stays the same: death, violence, rapes and other traumatic experiences are inevitable. These experiences crucially influence lives of the protagonists. The comparative part of the thesis focuses on the language, time and place in each play and explores the question of impact of war on protagonists (their life after the war, male and female view on war and how society responds to their traumas).
