The American Vanguard Painting exhibition was presented in Yugoslavia as a part of European tour in the years 1961–62 and two of the stops were also Modern Gallery in Ljubljana and Art Gallery in Maribor. The main organiser of the exhibition was the American Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. It was mostly a presentation of American art in the 50s and its main phenomenon, abstract expressionism. In my thesis, I'm focusing on the presentation in Ljubljana and trying to define the art critic on the exhibition, mainly through newspaper articles. I'm placing this exhibition in the context of postwar exhibiting in Yugoslavia and American–Yugoslav cultural relations.
