In this thesis we study the mortality of the elderly in Slovenia due to the Covid-19 disease. The Covid-19 disease appeared in China at the end of 2019 and then spread worldwide. The World Health Organization declared a pandemic on the 11th of March 2020. It was established that elderly people, aged 65 or more, presented one of the most vulnerable groups of people and were more susceptible to infection and a more severe course of the disease. However, measuring mortality due to the covid-19 disease presents some difficulties. Therefore, the thesis focuses on analysing the mortality of the elderly in Slovenia due to the covid-19 disease. This is done by calculating the excess mortality. The results are later compared with the data from the Slovenian National Institute of Health and some discrepancies occur between the data from the National Institute of Health and the calculated excess mortality. In the thesis reasons for the discrepancies are discussed (OpenAI ChatGPT, 2024, 29.08.).
