This thesis compares the characters of Achilles and Odysseus through various literary interpretations, exploring their transformations in different cultural and literary contexts. It focuses on Achilles in Homer’s Iliad, Mirt Komel’s Akiles, and Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles. Additionally, it analyzes Odysseus in Homer’s Odyssey, Borut Korun’s Odisej sem, Itaka dom je moj sončni, Madeline Miller’s Circe, and Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad. It investigates how different authors, both foreign and Slovenian, interpret and develop the complex characters of Achilles and Odysseus, and how the changes introduced in their depictions reflect shifting cultural values and societal norms. Using a comparative method, it strives to reveal the enduring relevance of these classical Greek heroes and their stories in contemporary novels and literature in general.
