The thesis titled "Investigation of Magnetic Inhomogeneity" focuses on studying the magnetic properties of elastoferrite, a composite material that combines various types of rubber with magnetic particles. Elastoferrite is used in the industry for magnetic sensors and actuators. The goal of the thesis was to identify the causes of magnetic inhomogeneity in elastoferrite and to analyze different manufacturers of elastoferrites used by the company RLS Merilna Tehnika d.o.o.
RLS Merilna Tehnika d.o.o. is a Slovenian company that develops and markets magnetic position and rotation encoders. The company collaborates with leading global companies such as Renishaw, ABB, Siemens, Bosch, Medtronic, Tesla, Airbus, Boeing, and SpaceX. RLS is a significant part of the Slovenian economy, employing more than 290 people and creating high added value.
The research used various types of rubber, such as HNBR, NBR, and PU, in combination with ferrite particles. The analysis included an examination of the microstructure and magnetic properties of particles in elastoferrites using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), magnetization device, and analysis software.
The results showed that magnetic inhomogeneity in elastoferrite could arise from various factors, including cracks in the material, different particle sizes, and the presence of agglomerates of ferromagnetic materials. Additional analyses are suggested for more precise findings, including sample cross-sectioning, particle size measurement, and chemical analysis of samples. The research contributes to a better understanding of magnetic materials and the selection of optimal elastoferrite for specific applications.
