Abstract

Title:Changes in the rheological properties of engine oil
Abstract:
Engine oil is a very important fluid needed for the operation of internal combustion engines, as it has many functions other than lubricating the internal parts, such as cooling, cleaning, sealing, corrosion protection, etc. One of the most important properties of engine oil is viscosity. In the framework of my thesis, I used a rotational viscometer to determine the viscosity of six engine oils at 25 °C and 40 °C. Based on these measurements, I estimated the viscosity of a given oil at 100 °C. I compared the viscosity of the original oil and that of the old (used) oil. The viscosity of the oil depended on the oil gradation itself and the oil mark (manufacturer), the temperature as well as the wear of the oil due to engine operation.
