Abstract

Abstract:
Silk tree is a non-indigenous tree species in Slovenia, which is cultivated for ornamental purposes. Since there is little data on its prevalence in Slovenia, a survey has been done, which examined the prevalence of silk tree in nurseries and consequently in Slovenia. The results of the survey showed, that silk tree is widespread throughout Slovenia, except in the Gorenjska region, where its cultivation is hampered because of the low temperatures of the region. The survey also helped to determine which varieties of silk tree are most commonly sold in nurseries of Slovenia, and if the variety 'Rosea' is the most commonly grown cultivar. The results of the survey confirmed our hypothesis, that the most prevalent silk tree cultivar is 'Rosea'. An investigation has also been done on the pests that occur on this tree species, specifically on the prevalence of silk trees specific pest, the Asian psyllid (Acizzia jamatonica) in Slovenias nurseries. It turned out, that the Asian psyllid is most prevalent at the coastal-karst region of Slovenia.
