The thesis deals with the concept of history. To address this question, it first examines the definitions of time and memory as constitutive terms in the discussion of history. It connects all three axes with reference to the essay by the German philosopher Walter Benjamin On the Concept of History [Über den Begriff der Geschichte] and its interpretation in the study of the Slovenian historian Sašo Jerše Angelus novus. In the second part, the thesis focuses on Kocbek's understanding of history, drawing on his pre-, mid-, and post-war writings, poetry, and especially on his diary entries from May 17 1942, to December 2, 1943, published in Tovarišija in 1949 and Listina in 1967. His understanding of history is approached through the lens of three concepts: »person«, collective, and poetry.
