Synaesthesia, or co-sensation, is a phenomenon in which the stimulation of one of the senses leads to an involuntary and unconscious triggering of another, unrelated sensory experience. The use of hallucinogens can be used to artificially induce the process even in people who do not otherwise experience co-sensation, as they have been shown to increase the intensity of sensation; to broaden perception and to amplify external stimuli. The spatio-temporal form of synaesthesia that I experience is relatively unexplored in the context of all other types. An individual with spatio-temporal synaesthesia perceives time with an accompanying spatial dimension component. Based mainly on my own experiences and spontaneous/induced synaesthetic experiences of other individuals, I will explore the personal side of chronological perception in my thesis.
