The research theme of the thesis with the title and subtitle “Surrealist Analogue Photography” comprises a thorough investigation of the surrealist movement in the context of analogue photography. Through art-historical perspective, it covers key questions about the origins of the surrealist movement and its characteristics, which are explored through key artists of the movement.
In addition to theoretical research, the thesis also contains a practical part. I researched my own photographic creation and analysed it through art-theoretical analysis and describe it through formal and content analysis. In my practical work, I used an analogue camera with 35 mm film, but above all I looked for techniques such as multiple exposure, light manipulation, use of colour and other filters. I chose the topic because in the course of my artistic creation and research I noticed a lot of interest and inclination towards the direction. Despite the fact that nowadays surrealist photography is very popular due to digital manipulation, I feel that the analogue way of processing is in decline and is not as explored.
