Abstract

Title:Protocol for ownership management of 3D printed products in blockchain based shared manufacturing
Abstract:
In a shared manufacturing system, challenges related to intellectual property control arise due to the extensive interactions between manufacturers, who can simultaneously function as both consumers and providers within the system. This issue is particularly evident in additive manufacturing technologies. While existing literature has introduced concepts for managing digital property ownership using blockchain technology, there has yet to be a concept, addressing the decentralized management of physical product ownership. The study presents a protocol for managing ownership of 3D printed products using blockchain technology within the context of shared manufacturing. The proposed protocol facilitates the verification of the creation and transfer of ownership through non-fungible tokens and the tagging of physical products. An experimental method is described for determining the impact of product tagging, along with the effect of tags on the products. The results suggest that, based on the smallest impact area, QR codes are more suitable for tagging smaller and deeper products, while identification tags are more appropriate for tagging larger and thinner products.
