The world is facing increasing levels of aggression and numerous challenges that organizations within individual countries must address. In 2015, the refugee crisis in the Western Balkans brought multitude of challenges to Slovenia as well. The Slovenian army and police faced one of the biggest challenges due to the refugee crisis. Despite all the resources utilized by state authorities, it became evident that the country was unprepared for such a large influx of refugees. The Slovenian Police required the assistance of the Slovenian Armed Forces to control the state border. Both Slovenian defence and security institutions demonstrated good cooperation during the Balkan migration crisis; however, legal obstacles emerged that required adaptations and new legislation for the more effective involvement of the military in border protection.
