Fast and reliable communication between industrial controllers and higher-level computer systems is crucial in automated high-bay warehouses. Despite the advantages of standardized protocols such as OPC and MQTT, their complexity, responsiveness, and required infrastructure can limit their usability. We proposed a proprietary communication protocol based on the TCP protocol as an alternative. The thesis implements the proposed protocol on an industrial controller and a console application. To test the correct functioning of the protocol, we prepared an industrial controller-based simulator of high-bay warehouse devices. Using the simulator, we evaluated the proposed protocol in various test scenarios. We confirmed the correct functioning of the protocol, which proved to be robust enough for communication between high-bay warehouse devices and easy to read while posing an acceptable additional burden to the industrial controller CPU.
