Herbivorous game represents a major problem in some areas due to excessive and repeated damage it causes to saplings, which slows down or even prevents their growth. There are several possible reasons for this, not only excessive number of game but also lack of adequate food sources, increased disorder in game habitats, unfavourable condition of forests, etc. This thesis presents the situation in the Regional Unit of Celje. Data on the damage were obtained from the Slovenian Forest Service (SFS), which collected them by a revised method in the years 2009 and 2010. The paper shows damage and current annual damage according to height classes and tree species. The largest damage was observed in soft and in noble deciduous trees. In the first, in the height class between 30 cm and 60 cm, the damage was 45 %, and in the latter, in the height class between 60 cm and 100 cm, the damage was 66 %. Among coniferous trees, the largest percentage of damage is in pine trees in the height class between 15 cm and 30 cm, and amounts to 50 %. Large herbivores in the RegionalUnit of Celje do not represent a major problem for now, and major damage occurs only locally. While the trend of game is increasing, it has not been established that numbers are too high; a greater problem lies in an insufficient proportion of shoots (lack of food supplies and protection) or in a disrupted ratio of developmental phases.
