Abstract
This thesis looks at the multitude of entanglements that generate the local ways of knowing on Grohot, a mountain pasture in Solčavsko, Slovenia. The latter is shaped, reshaped and sustained by the transhumance practices of the farmers who graze their cattle on Grohot. The content focuses on the three interrelated realms that shape the ways of knowing on Grohot. Firstly, the political and socio-historical realm gives insight into a broader context, which is salient for the farming knowledge culture. Secondly, kinship and the nuclear family as the primary socialisation environment for assuring the material resources and know-how necessary for learning and practising transhumance. Thirdly, the broader social and geophysical environment of Grohot and Solčavsko embeds practical knowledge and generates the learning process. Ways of knowing of Grohot are closely interrelated to the local, site-specific know-how yet are always (re)shaped by the broader social, political and economic context of the respective area. Together, these interconnected realms shape the local ways of knowing that underscore the deep, experiential learning crucial for the preservation, continuity and sustainability of local farming and Grohot.

Title:Prepleteni načini vedenja: prenos znanj in učenje transhumance na planini Grohot, Solčava
