Zaplana is one of the local communities in Vrhnika. It has undergone a major transformation in the last two decades, from a weekend settlement to a dormitory settlement. The number of inhabitants has more than doubled since the turn of the millennium and the transformation of the settlement is mainly reflected in the change of land use and the increased built-up area. The area has been heavily influenced by suburbanisation, which has been able to occur in the area due to the good transport links with Ljubljana and the proximity of Vrhnika and Logatec. People move here mainly because of the affordable land prices, the peace and nature and the proximity to the central settlement, which can be reached in a very short time.
