Abstract

Title:The role of the USA in the attempt to preserve the SFRY
Abstract:
The United States has had a prominent role worldwide since World War I, and the same was true for relations with the former country of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. When Yugoslavia showed interest in beeing a non-aligned country, it became clear that the US would become increasingly involved. They demonstrated this through political positions, economic aid and, in the end, military intervention. But policy positions were often unequal or divided within the US Congress, the State Department, and ultimately presidents, as leading men. The reason was political division dominated by Republicans and Democrats. At this point, I would like to explore which views were supported by a particular political side and what was America's role in the years from 1989 to 1995 when Yugoslavia began to disintegrate.
