Abstract

Title:Extracellular vesicles as mediators of communication between species
Abstract:
The main objective of this undergraduate thesis is to shed light on the aplicational value of extracellular vesicle mediated communication. In the beginning it was thought that cells use extracellular vesicles as a means to eliminate waste molecules. But later reaserch found that they can contain all the important macromolecules such as RNA, DNA, lipids and proteins. This led to the discovery of the many functions of ekstracelular vesicles that are based un the transport of biomolecules. Their functions include protection agaist pathogens, pathogenisis, imunomodulation and signalisation between cells. We now know that cells can produce different types of extracellular vesicles. Furhermore fungal, plant and animal cells produce different types of extracellular vesicles as well. All the aforementioned data and the fact that organisms can use extracellular vesicles to communicate with species belonging to different kingdoms.

Keywords:extracellular vesicles, exosomes, RNA interference, cross species communication
