Abstract

Title:Identifying distinctive landscapes of the Polhov Gradec Hills as a basis for the development of a management plan
Abstract:
In this master thesis, landscape identity is evaluated by the existing evaluation method at national level and according to an adapted/new evaluation method at local level. The two methods have been tested in an area of the Polhov Gradec Hills, which is partly located in a landscape park and has a high landscape and ecological value, with a close interplay between man and nature. The differences and similarities in the evaluation of identity at these two levels are discussed. The thesis then highlights the possibilities of using the landscape identity areas and the concept of landscape identity itself as a basis for the design of a management plan. The difference between municipal boundaries, which do not necessarily follow natural boundaries, and landscape typology, which comprises landscape-uniform areas and thus offers the possibility of uniform management, is presented. Furthermore, the management plan is underlined as one of the options for ensuring the appropriate protection and development of areas of landscape identity, in select examples.
