Digital signage is gaining popularity as a way of “out of home” advertising and informing of public. It has replaced traditional posters, because of its ability to show dynamic content, that quickly catches viewers’ attention. Digital signage system is usually comprised of digital displays, media players and a central content management system, that allows remote media player management.
We researched digital signage, its beginnings, today’s trends and effects that digital signs have on the viewer. We also researched capabilities of 5G technologies and how they could contribute to the development of digital signage systems. We deployed a digital signage pilot system for a large company on a platform PiSignage. We added a 5G development modem to a digital signage player and observed how the system works. We established a connection between the player and the content management system over public NSA and private SA 5G networks. The mobile connection worked perfectly over both networks. As for the platform PiSignage, we concluded that it’s not suitable for use in large companies because of the lack of advanced features, poor security and trouble with showing some of the content types. A better option would be platform Xibo. It offers not only better features, but also better security and multiple user accounts.
