The aim of this thesis is to present the methods used to assess the psychological state of dogs. We focus on methods that can be broadly divided into personality psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology and psychophysiology. In personality psychology, scientists have over time developed methods to define a dog's personality and among which the DMA (Dog Mentality Assessment) test stands out. Social psychology also helps us to study psychological states. Here, scientists have observed the behaviour of dogs in social interactions with owners, experimenters and other dogs. Cognitive methods have also been used to conduct studies based on understanding information and applying it to daily life, which helps animals survive and thrive. One of the cognitive methods is the viability test, which is used to assess the feeling of hunger. Using psychophysiological methods such as thermography and heart rate measurements, the scientists investigated how body temperature and heart rate responded to the dogs' psychological states. The main results show that the psychological states of dogs depend on their personality, the social situations they find themselves in, their thinking skills and the regulation of its body processes.
