In this contribution, new terms for the varities of Slovene and different hierarchy of social varities are proposed. Our suggestion and other opinions about the present situation of Slovene dialects (e.g. that dialcets disappear under the influence of the media, that dialects are spoken only in a private, i.e, within families, that dialects are spoken only in rural societies, that dialect are spoken by uneducated or les educated speakers, that young people dont' speak dialects, that women are better dialect speakers etc.) are corroborated by the results of a questionnaire.
