The Julian Alps are considered one of the most important tourist areas in Slovenia. The thesis examines the impact of tourism development on the increase in the number of mountain accidents in the Julian Alps. The main purpose is to find out what are the main causes of the increase in mountain accidents in the area of the Julian Alps, what types of tourists are most often involved in mountain accidents, and in what way a further increase in accidents could be prevented in the future. The thesis used literature from the field of tourism development in the area of the Julian Alps and data from the Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia, the Association of the Julian Alps, and Triglav National Park. For the purposes of the research part of the thesis, a survey was conducted with members of the Mountain Rescue Services operating in the studied area. We conclude that the main reasons for the increase in the number of mountain accidents in the Julian Alps are ignorance of the terrain and the exhaustion or excessive physical effort of individuals. Foreign tourists who go to the mountains with their friends during the summer tourist season are most often involved in accidents. In recent years, the number of uninjured people in mountain accidents has been increasing, which means that many accidents could be prevented in the future with prevention and better preparation for the tour. Reducing the number of accidents could also be helped by better informing tourist workers about the conditions in the mountains and limiting visits to the most popular routes in the Julian Alps.
