Trbovlje is a mining and industrial town. Its mining and industrial environment had a direct and indirect impact on most of the artists who lived and worked in Trbovlje. I will analytically examine the eruption of art and culture in this town and try to make my contribution to it. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I will examine the impact of mining on the development of art and culture in Trbovlje. First, I will find out which renowned artists, collectives and institutions have found their artistic inspiration in the mining environment. I will introduce each artist and try to find out how the mining and living in Trbovlje affected them and their art. Next, I will focus on artists who expressed themselves and the mining motif through printmaking techniques. In the introduction of the empirical part of the thesis, I will theoretically research contemporary printmaking and its expanded field. In the empirical part, I will present my art experiment. I have made a series of prints called »Kuolmografija« using the collagraphy technique, but I substituted the sand, which is usually used, with coal powder. I have also made a stop-motion animation from a series of prints using the same technique. I am interested in how the students use the motif of their hometown’s mining history in their artwork.
